A hospital is a health care center equipped with medical equipment and nursing staff intended to treat patience. During the middle ages, hospitals served several functions from modern institutions. Hospitals within the middle ages were almshouses (charitable houses) for the poor, hostels for pilgrims, or hospital schools. Hospitals offer outpatient and inpatient care according to their infrastructure and resources available.
As health care quality has increasingly become a worldwide issue, independent external assessment concerning quality has become one of the most powerful ways to assess health care aspects. Hospital accreditation is one means by which this is often achieved. In several parts of the world, hospital accreditation is sourced from other countries, known as International Healthcare Accreditation.
