New York – Largest City in the United States by Population

New York is the largest and most populated city in America as of now with nearly 8 million people. Cities are formed due to a specific kind of industry activity (like the construction of a factory or the discovery of a new gold mine) or of political reasons like defense over a specific territory or the necessity to build a new trading post. However, cities are not usually “founded”, there are conditions that can eventually lead to the emergence of a human settlement, which can evolve to a village which can, perhaps, become a city over a period of time.

The conditions like the presence of natural resources, a river, and soil that allows crops to grow, yet most important, are the historical conditions. Cities are a direct consequence of societies and all of its institutions. Characteristics like religion, production system, nature pressure, all of that matters when cities are being formed.

Brooklyn and Queens, each of which are just a part of NYC, would be tied for the 4th largest city in the US if they were their own city.

There are nearly 4 lakh more women than men in New York which contributes to what is informally known as MHDS – “Male Hotness Delusion Syndrome.” The average commute for New Yorkers is just over 40 minutes, about 14 minutes longer than the national average. Half of all New Yorkers use a language other than English at home.
